PEI has done an excellent job at supporting the traditional economy while creating the right conditions for the growth of the new economy. It helps to have a roadmap to development and the PEI BioAlliance has been very instrumental in facilitating this process for our company.

Dr. Debbie Plouffe
(Vice President of Research)

Dr. Debbie Plouffe is the Vice President of Research for the Center for Aquaculture Technologies Canada (CATC).  Dr. Plouffe is a molecular and cell biologist with a strong background in fish immunology and fish health. She received her undergraduate (1999) and doctoral (2005) degrees from the University of Alberta in Edmonton and held a post-doctoral fellowship at the NRC in Halifax for two years where she developed DNA-vaccines for Atlantic salmon.
Previously, she has served as the Group Leader for Research and Development for AquaBounty Canada in PEI where she was responsible for the management of research programs and development of products in a regulatory compliant laboratory. Currently, she is responsible for the management of research priorities and development of new projects, contracts, and collaborations from the CATC facility on PEI.
Debbie currently sits on the NSERC Atlantic Advisory Committee and holds the position of Deputy Provincial Commissioner with Girl Guides of Canada-New Brunswick/PEI council.
