New Leaf Essentials East brings new jobs to Slemon Park
Wednesday, March 8, 2017

PEI Minister of Economic Development and Tourism Heath MacDonald (far left) joins (from left to right) Owner of New Leaf Essentials East Chris Chivilo, Minister of Rural and Regional Development Pat Murphy and Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Alan McIsaac at the former potato chip plant in Slemon Park where New Leaf Essentials East is setting up a field pea processing facility.
Now that PEI native Chris Chivilo is a successful pulse processor and trader in Western Canada with his company, WA Grain Holdings Inc., he wants to do the same in his home province with New Leaf Essentials East, an Island-based subsidiary of WA Grain Holdings Inc. It will contract with local farmers to produce about 5,000 acres of field peas and process them at its newly purchased facility in Slemon Park, creating  new jobs in the province and increasing our exports.
