New Leaf Essentials East brings new jobs to Slemon Park

Now that PEI native Chris Chivilo is a successful pulse processor and trader in Western Canada with his company, WA Grain Holdings Inc., he wants to do the same in his home province with New Leaf Essentials East, an Island-based subsidiary of WA Grain Holdings Inc. It will contract with local farmers to produce about 5,000 acres of field peas and process them at its newly purchased facility in Slemon Park, creating  new jobs in the province and increasing our exports.

Somru Bioscience Inc. is an emerging biotechnology company dedicated to developing antibody and immunoassay solutions for research, diagnostic and therapeutic applications. The technology developed by Somru helps its clients bring affordable life-saving bio-therapeutics to the market sooner. Federal and Provincial government officials were in Charlottetown today to announce funding assistance for the Company's construction of a new 5,000 square foot facility in the BioCommons Research Park.

More workers in PEI will get training support for in-demand jobs, thanks to additional funding support from the Government of Canada. Rodger Cuzner, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, and Member of Parliament for Cape Breton–Canso (Nova Scotia) made the announcement at Sekisui today on behalf of the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour.
Canada and P.E.I. invest in infrastructure at Holland College

Today, the Government of Canada announced an investment of $2.3 million for Holland College, Prince Edward Island, which will be used to upgrade research and training space at its Prince of Wales campus in Charlottetown. This investment will improve specialized research and training space for 1,400 students enrolled in more than 30 programs designed to meet the needs of local industry. Read news release here.
