Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) provides information, research and technology, and policies and programs to achieve security of the food system, health of the environment and innovation for growth. AAFC, along with its portfolio partners, reports to Parliament and Canadians through the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and Minister for the Canadian Wheat Board.

BioCommons Research Park

The BioCommons Research Park is a $30 million campus-style facility spread across 65 acres. The park provides commercialization support to the bioscience sector, with technology and infrastructure to accelerate products through the development cycle and into the marketplace. The BioCommons is currently home to several biotech companies, including: Somru BioSciences, Dosecann, Canada’s Island Garden, and Island Abbey Foods.

BioFoodTech

PEI’s BIO FOOD TECH was established in 1987 as the Food Technology Centre to provide technical support to the food processing industry in Prince Edward Island. Since then, BFT has strategically developed its infrastructure and attained recognition as a quality technology provider to many local, regional, national and international clients. Export Development Canada (EDC)

EDC is Canada’s export credit agency. Their job is to support and develop Canada’s export trade by helping Canadian companies respond to international business opportunities. EDC is a self-financing, Crown corporation that operates at arm’s length from the Government. The Charlottetown office opened in June 2017 to provide insurance and financial services, bonding products and small business solutions to Canadian exporters and investors and their international buyers. EDC also supports Canadian direct investment abroad and investment into Canada. Much of their business is done in partnership with other financial institutions and through collaboration with the Government of Canada.

The PEI Potato Quality Institute is a not-for-profit organization consisting primarily of potato producers to provide testing, research and other related services in a timely and cost effective manner to potato growers. The Potato Quality Institute is the only lab on PEI accredited by CFIA and is one of five accredited in Canada.

Regis Duffy Bioscience Fund (PRIVATE CAPITAL)

A $1 Million fund created to invest in Bioscience related activities in Prince Edward Island. The fund assists emerging science based businesses in Prince Edward Island that are at the commercialization or near commercialization stage of their development to receive up to $100,000 in equity.

West Royalty IndustrIal Park

The West Royalty Business Park is a 100-acre site that is home to approximately 50 businesses and employs approximately 1,500 people in a diverse mix of manufacturing and service operations.

The site has a few select and full service business lots available, with both three phase power and fibre-optic connections. The park also includes an array of lease space, ranging in size from 1,500 to 33,000 square feet, subject to availability.
